Pierce Celts' No. 2 scorer, passes Bird (AP)

Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce (34) is congratulated by Kevin Garnett (5) after becoming the No. 2 all-time Celtics scorer, surpassing Larry Bird, during the second half of an NBA basketball game against the Charlotte Bobcats in Boston on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. The Celtics won 94-84.

Paul Pierce knew what was on the line with every shot. The pressure was quite clear to Pierce and anyone else in the arena as he stood on the verge of passing Larry Bird for No. 2 on Boston's career scoring list. He needed only 10 points to overtake Bird when the Celtics hosted Charlotte on Tuesday night and those final three seemed as if they would never come.

Thunder survive Ellis' 48, beat Warriors (AP)

Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant (35) scores in the last 15.7 seconds against the Golden State Warriors in the fourth quarter of an NBA basketball game in Oakland, Calif., Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Golden State Warriors 119-116.

Kevin Durant came hard off the screen, took the pass and launched a jumper that banked off the glass and through the net. In a season already filled with late-game highlights and game-winning shots, Durant can't miss even when he's off the mark. The same might go for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The New York Knicks say they expect Carmelo Anthony to miss a week or two with a strained right groin. Anthony was hurt Monday, leaving after six minutes of a 99-88 victory over Utah and continuing an injury-plagued season. Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra smiles as he watches during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Miami on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. The Heat won 107-91.

One stingy defensive stretch was enough to carry the Miami Heat past LeBron James' former team once again. Might have gotten the Heat prepped for a daunting road stretch as well. Dwyane Wade scored 26 points, James added 24 and the Heat said farewell to their home floor for nearly two weeks by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-91 on Tuesday night.

Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari (8) from Italy walks gingerly back to the line to shoot free throws after injuring his ankle against the Houston Rockets during the third quarter of an NBA basketball game on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in Denver.

It was hard for Danilo Gallinari to actually have pep in his step Tuesday. He's still adjusting to crutches for the first time in his life and the walking boot will remain on his left foot for several more days. Yet, there was clearly an air of relief about the Denver Nuggets' forward and leading scorer after a round of medical tests Tuesday revealed the chip fracture that was discovered...

Minus Love, Wolves win third straight (AP)

Minnesota Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic , left, defends Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins in the fourth quarter of an NBA basketball game in Minneapolis Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. Minnesota won 86-84.

The way that DeMarcus Cousins has been playing lately, the Minnesota Timberwolves were looking like fools for passing on him in favor of Wes Johnson last year. The way Nikola Pekovic is emerging as a force in the middle is definitely softening that blow. Pekovic had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Michael Beasley added 17 points and 14 boards to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to an 86-84 victory...

What a way for Steve Nash to celebrate his 38th birthday. It wasn't a bad homecoming for Michael Redd, either. Nash hit a driving layup to give Phoenix the lead with 5 seconds left and Redd scored 14 points in his first game against his former team as the Suns beat the Milwaukee Bucks 107-105 on Tuesday.
